About the Day

Encounter Pentecost

Pentecost is the great feast of the Holy Spirit and the birthday of the Church.

Encounter Pentecost is a day to gather at St George’s Cathedral, Southwark, to celebrate this feast together with people from across the Archdiocese and beyond. Through worship, prayer, teaching and fellowship, the day offers an opportunity to reflect on the gift of the Holy Spirit and to renew our faith.

The day is open to everyone – individuals, families, parish groups and those simply curious to explore the life of the Church.

A day of worship, prayer and celebration

Encounter Pentecost will include a range of opportunities to encounter God and connect with others in the Church community.

During the day there will be:

  • Praise and worship in the Cathedral

  • Teaching and testimony

  • Eucharistic Adoration

  • Opportunities for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)

  • Prayer ministry

  • Talks and conversations exploring faith and mission

  • Stalls from ministries and organisations across the Archdiocese

  • Refreshments and opportunities to meet others

The day will conclude with a Vigil Mass of Pentecost - gathering together in the Cathedral to celebrate this great Feast.

Families and young people

Families are warmly welcome.

Activities for children and young people will take place during the day in Amigo Hall, organised with the diocesan education and youth teams. Further details about children’s activities and registration will be published as the programme develops.

A gathering for the whole Archdiocese

Pentecost reminds us that the Holy Spirit gathers people from many nations, languages and cultures into one Church.

Encounter Pentecost is an opportunity for people from different parishes, communities and ministries across the Archdiocese to come together in prayer and celebration, sharing the gifts that the Spirit has given to the Church.
